Walter Pater vs. Samuel R. Delany
Side-by-side comparison of two thinkers

Walter Pater
1839 – 1894
Walter Horatio Pater was an English essayist, art and literary critic, and fiction writer, regarded as one of the great stylists. His first and most often reprinted book, Studies in the History of the Renaissance (1873), revised as The Renaissance: Studies in Art and Poetry (1877), in which he outlined his approach to art and advocated an ideal of the intense inner life, was taken by many as a manifesto of Aestheticism.
"Art comes to you proposing frankly to give nothing but the highest quality to your moments as they pass."
Samuel R. Delany
1942 – present
Samuel R. "Chip" Delany is an African American writer and literary critic. His work includes fiction, memoir, criticism, and essays on science fiction, literature, sexuality, and society.
"I want to talk about love. Loving someone...I mean really loving someone...means you are willing to admit that the person you love is not what you first fell in…"
