“I figured all your classes were stuff like Slaughter 101 and Beheading for Beginners.”

“It's the Mortal Cup, Jace, not the Mortal Toilet Bowl.”

“Hearing my achievements recited is certainly gratifying, but I'm not sure what your point is, Alec.”

“Sometimes it comes down to a choice. Between saving one person and saving the whole world. I've seen it happen, and I'm selfish enough to want the person who loves me to choose me. But Nephilim will always choose the world. I look at Alec and I feel like Lucifer in Paradise Lost. "Abashed the Devil stood, And felt how awful goodness is." He meant it in the classic sense. “Here, I'll practice on you. Mom. I have something to tell you. I'm undead. Now, I know you may have some preconceived notions about the undead. I know you may not be comfortable with the idea of me being undead. But I'm here to tell you that the undead are just like you and me. Well, okay. Possibly more like me than you.”

“With Jace, you don't really get to choose your insulting nickname.”
